As the summers continue to get hotter, the owners of this multi-family home in Revere, MA, knew that they would need to upgrade the through-wall units they had installed for AC throughout the house. Not only were these units expensive to operate, but they were unreliable and inefficient. Often the families found themselves with hot and cold spots throughout the home.
The existing gas heat for the home was able to keep up with the winters in Revere, but the energy bills were extremely high. The owner of the house knew it was time to upgrade the home with a new heating and cooling system for year-round relief.
The Problem: The owners of this multi-family home had through-wall window ACs installed to keep the house cool, but this was inefficient and unreliable. They needed a solution that would offer higher quality cooling and supplemental heat.
The Solution: N.E.T.R., Inc., helped the owners get the relief they craved by installing two LG ductless heat pumps with heating and cooling capabilities. The new systems included heating and cooling in a room that was previously without comfort control.
The Design
After seeing the home, the N.E.T.R., Inc. comfort specialist recommended two separate LG ductless systems for both of the “homes” to give the families separate control over the comfort in their homes. The LG heat pumps are highly efficient and will easily be able to offer the comfort they need to enjoy their home throughout the winter and summer months.
Both of the outdoor heat pumps would be installed outside the home on concrete pads to offer better access for our comfort specialists. The first system would have three ductless wall units installed. One LG ductless unit was installed in the family room, one in the kitchen, and a third in the bedroom.
The second LG system received two ductless wall units in the two rooms. This design will help the families have complete control over their comfort.
The Installation
Each of the new LG ductless wall units was installed in the home high on the walls where they could offer the best airflow. The ductless units are easy to install and do not require a lot of construction, unlike a ducted system. In fact, the only thing these units need other than the mounting is to have a small hole drilled through the wall behind the unit. This hole allows the tubing from the outdoor heat pump to connect and provides the heated and cooled air to the unit.
The placement of each LG ductless unit was carefully chosen to give the room the best airflow and allow the family to easily adjust the temperature with the remote controls. Outside, the two heat pumps were installed, and the piping was run along the outside of the home. Any new refrigerant lines or drain lines were covered with line hide to give the home a completed look before the comfort specialist from N.E.T.R., Inc., started up the system for a test run.
