Victorian Home Upgrades to Mitsubishi Ductless

Victorian home replaces window ACs with a Mitsubishi Electric ductless air conditioning system.

Many of the gorgeous Victorian homes throughout Boston have been transformed into beautiful condos for multi-families over the past several decades. These condos are often beautiful and spacious with modern updates. Unfortunately, the homes were built before central heating and air conditioning were standard, so they are often challenging to keep a comfortable temperature.

The family using the bottom floor condo of this Victorian home was tired of dealing with the existing oil heating system that left hot and cold spots throughout the home. Additionally, the lack of air conditioning had the family turning to window ACs in the summer for cooling relief.

Window air conditioners are notorious for being loud, expensive to run, and inefficient. Many people do not realize that they also pose a security threat since burglars have been known to gain access to a home by pushing the window AC in through the window and climbing in after. These reasons led the family to decide it was time for a change, so they contacted N.E.T.R., Inc.,.

The Problem: The family living in this Victorian condo needed supplemental heating for the existing oil heating system and a better solution for air conditioning than the window ACs they were currently using.

The Solution: N.E.T.R., Inc., installed a four-zoned Mistubishi ductless system with a heat pump, high-efficiency air conditioning, and a Kumo cloud station. Now the family will be comfortable all year long.

The Design

When the family knew it was time for a change, they researched their options for upgrading their condo. The Mitsubishi ductless system was an excellent option for their home because it does not require ductwork to be added to the house, which would be a large renovation project that would take away from the home’s natural beauty.

N.E.T.R., Inc., was the clear choice for their project because of our status as the #1 Elite Diamond Dealer for Mitsubishi Electric ductless in Boston. The family knew that our team would be able to design a perfect system for their home.

After touring the home, our team proposed installing a four-zone Mitsubishi ductless air conditioning system with a heat pump for supplemental heating in the winter. The indoor units would be installed in the kitchen, living room, and both bedrooms. The entire system would only require a single outdoor condenser unit and heat pump to provide high-quality air control throughout the home.

The Installation

Installing a Mitsubishi ductless system is easy and does not require massive renovations to the home’s interior. Instead, the technician drills a small hole in the wall and snakes a thin tubing through the walls like electrical wiring. The tubing connects the indoor ACs to the outdoor condenser to deliver the treated air quickly and efficiently.

The indoor AC units are mounted on the wall, out of the way, providing the best airflow for the space. In this project, we installed a Mitsubishi ductless wall AC in each room that needed additional heating and cooling.

N.E.T.R., Inc., installed the outdoor condenser and ductless heat pump on a concrete pad outside the home where it was out of the way but easy to access for maintenance and repairs. Because of the efficiency of the Mitsubishi Electric ductless AC system, a single heat pump was all the home needed to run all four indoor units.

The Benefits

Each of the new indoor wall ACs operates independently from the other units in the system. This allows the family to create four zones of comfort throughout the home. Because a centralized thermostat does not control the system, they can easily keep the kitchen cooler while cooking dinner and leave their bedroom toasty warm.

Additionally, the Mitsubishi ductless heat pump system is dual-purpose for heating and air conditioning. Each of the units provides heating or cooling with the touch of a button. Now, it is easy for the family to warm up their bedroom on chilly mornings without the need to switch the entire system over.

Another feature that N.E.T.R., Inc., included with this installation was a Kumo Cloud Station. This feature allows the homeowners to access their system from their smartphones no matter where they are.

By choosing this efficient and environmentally friendly option for their heating and air conditioning upgrade, the family qualified for multiple rebates. This family qualified for $5,600 rebate from Mass Save and a $2,000 Mass CEC rebate, saving them a total of $7,600 on their home’s ductless system! Not only will the Mitsubishi ductless system help them to save money every month, but the rebate will help to offset the cost of installation.
