Framingham, MA, is a city that is ripe with history and teeming with life. Many families call this place home and love to participate in the local events that celebrate the town’s history.
The owners of this cape-style home, enjoy raising their family in such a beautiful town, but their older home was beginning to give them trouble. Many homes in Massachusetts, especially older homes, are not built with central air conditioning systems. This cape-style home was no different.
The family had finally had enough of struggling with window ACs to try and stay cool in the summertime and knew there had to be a better option out there. Additionally, the home’s existing Eversource electric baseboard heating system was expensive to run and left hot and cold spots throughout the home.
After some research, they discovered N.E.T.R., Inc. and our status as the #1 Elite Diamond Dealer for Mitsubishi ductless made them sure we could design a solution for their home that would meet their heating and cooling needs.
The Design
After contacting N.E.T.R., Inc., the family met with one of our project specialists to discuss the problems they were experiencing and design a solution. Our team at N.E.T.R., Inc. saw that the window AC units were cumbersome, noisy, and took up the home’s beautiful windows all summer long.
Additionally, window ACs are extremely inefficient, which left the family with outrageously high energy bills during the summer for a cooling system that left them sweating. Another concern for the family is that window ACs are a notorious security risk for homes because burglars have been known to use them as access points for the house.
The family was also experiencing hot and cold spots in the winter, due to their Eversource electric baseboard heating system. N.E.T.R., Inc. informed the family that we could solve both problems with a single two-zoned ductless system from Mitsubishi Electric.
The Installation
Unlike traditional air conditioning systems, the ductless system is easy to install in a home without existing ductwork, like this one. The Mitsubishi ductless units do not require ductwork and, instead, use thin tubing to pass the air from the outdoor condenser to the indoor air handler.
The first indoor ductless AC was installed in the kitchen, where it was placed to have optimal control over the distribution of the treated air. The second unit was installed in the living room. Both ductless ACs, only required a small hole to be drilled into the wall behind them, which allowed the piping to be run through the walls like electrical wiring to the outdoor unit.
The outdoor heat pump and condenser unit was installed under the stairs on the left side of the house, where it would be out of sight, be easy to reach for maintenance and repairs. After all of the units were in place, the tubing was run through the walls to connect the system together.
The Benefits
The family will now be able to enjoy their home all year long thanks to the outstanding heating and cooling power provided by the Mitsubishi ductless system. The two indoor units will function both as state-of-the-art air conditioners in the summer, and provide high-quality heating in the winter.
Now, the family will save on their energy bills all year long. Because they no longer have to rely on the inefficient, expensive window units, the ductless system will save them every month by using only about the same energy as a lightbulb. Additionally, each of the ductless ACs operated independently from the other, so they can easily customize the temperature in the different rooms.
For example, if the kitchen is getting warm because someone is cooking, they can easily turn on the ductless unit using the remote control and cool off the space without affecting the living room AC. In the winter, the Mitsubishi system will easily switch to providing supplemental heating for their electric baseboard system.
Another benefit of this Mitsubishi ductless AC system is that it is easy to expand on in the future. Should the family ever decide that they want additional heating or cooling in any of the bedrooms, N.E.T.R., Inc. can add the indoor unit and connect it to the existing condenser without a problem. These Mitsubishi ductless outdoor heat pumps are built to power up to five indoor units easily, so the family has plenty of options for future upgrades.
Each unit not only offers heating and cooling for the space, but they monitor the humidity and make adjustments for that, as well. This means that the family will never have to deal with the hot and sticky feeling that many window ACs leave you with during the summer. Instead, they’ll enjoy the complete cooling relief they crave. Additionally, the system can keep their home just humid enough in the winter to prevent dry skin and sore throats.
