LG Ductless Offers Relief for Tewksbury Cape Style Home

The owners of this cape home in Tewksbury, MA, loved the location and design of the house. Unfortunately, like many homes in the area, it was not built with a central AC system and relied on oil heating in the winter.

Right away, this family knew that it was not an ideal situation for them. Oil heating in Massachusetts’s frigid winters can be expensive, and depending on the age of the system, it can leave hot and cold spots throughout the home.

Split-level ranch in Tewksbury, MA, gets LG ductless system.Additionally, the lack of central air conditioning would leave the house hot and muggy all summer long. The owners considered investing in window AC units, but after some research decided against it. Window ACs are a common solution in the area, but they are noisy, expensive to run, and incredibly inefficient. On top of that, installing the units in the windows of the home would be a difficult task. They even found that it could create a security threat for the family. Burglars have been known to use window ACs as access points in houses, so the family knew this was not an option for them.

Another complicating factor was that the home was not designed to accommodate ductwork for a central HVAC system. This meant that the family would have to modify the interiors of their house greatly to accommodate the ductwork needed for that type of installation. A project like that would be expensive, invasive, and take months to complete.

These homeowners needed a simple, efficient solution that would provide high-quality heating and air conditioning throughout their home. While researching options, they found the many five-star reviews of N.E.T.R., Inc. left by previous customers. Immediately, they knew that we’d be able to design a solution that perfectly fit their home and needs.

The Problem: This cape had no central AC and used oil heating in the winter. The family needed a solution that was efficient, cost-effective, and provided year-round heating and cooling relief.

The Solution: N.E.T.R., Inc. installed a two-zoned system with an LG ductless unit in the family room and one in the bedroom. The LG ductless heating and air conditioning system will provide relief all year long.

The Design

Indoor LG ductless air handler in Tewksbury home bedroom. These homeowners contacted N.E.T.R, Inc. needing a ductless system for their home that would provide air conditioning and supplement their oil heating system. James Smithell took the lead on this project and met with the family to tour the property.

After examining the home, James knew that a two-zone LG ductless system would do the trick. He explained to the owners that a single LG air handler in the family room and one in the bedroom would provide exactly what they needed.

The system would need an outdoor condenser unit and heat pump to convert the outside air into perfectly treated air, but he had already found the perfect place for it. Just behind the home was a nook that was out of the way and easy to access. This location would allow N.E.T.R, Inc. to perform any maintenance and repairs easily, without interfering with the home’s curb appeal. Additionally, should the family ever need to expand the system, the outdoor unit would be perfectly located.

The Installation

Example of a ductless wall AC installed in a split-level ranch family room. The installation of this system was quick and easy, unlike the installation of a ducted system. Instead of needing to make changes to the home’s interior, the only thing these ductless units required is a small hole drilled into the wall behind the unit. This hole allows a thin tubing to be snaked through the walls and out to the outdoor unit.

The heat pump converts the outside air into treated air by pulling it through a set of piping with refrigerant. The LG system then pushes the treated air through the tubing and out the indoor LG wall AC to distribute it evenly throughout the room.

Both of the indoor units will operate individually so that the owners can keep the family room a few degrees cooler than the bedroom if they like. A central HVAC system would never be able to offer this kind of customizable temperature control because of the single thermostat.

The Benefits

LG ductless outdoor condenser unit and heat pump outside Tewksbury home. Each ductless AC unit will be easy to adjust since they operate via remote control. Now, if the homeowners are enjoying a movie night in the family room and it gets a little stuffy, they can adjust the temperature from the comfort of their couch.

The LG ductless system was an ideal solution for this family because it offers both heating and cooling. In the winter, the LG wall ACs will provide supplemental heating to the existing oil heat system. During the summer, the family will not have to worry about using window ACs, because the ductless units will keep their home perfectly cool.

Another benefit of the LG ductless system is that it is highly energy efficient. This will allow the family to save big on their monthly energy bills all year long. In fact, the LG system is so energy efficient that the owners were able to receive a rebate of $3,787 from Mass Save. Mass Save offers these incredible savings families who install environmentally-friendly heating and cooling systems in their homes.
