How Does a Ductless Heating & Cooling System Work? (Video)

Mike Cappuccio of NETR Inc. explains how a ductless heating & cooling system works.

Hi. I’m Mike Cappuccio of N.E.T.R., Inc. I’m here today to talk to you about how ductless heating and cooling systems work. Ductless splits, also called mini-splits, pump cooled or heated refrigerant directly to the wall or ceiling-mounted air handling unit in the home.

Each unit has its own wireless electronic temperature control (aka “remote”). Here’s how the system works in a single room application. The indoor unit uses refrigerant to cool or heat the air and quietly pushes the air where you need it in the living space. Refrigerant and electrical lines connect to the outdoor unit through a three-inch opening in the exterior wall of the home.

The outdoor unit’s state-of-the-art heat pump cools or warms the refrigerant and sends it back inside to the air handler, which continuously monitors the room for changes in temperature and sends the conditioned air to the areas of the home or the room that need it.
