Topsfield Colonial Home Replaces Air Conditioner

The small town of Topsfield is located on the North Shore region of Essex Country, MA.  The houses in the area are often older, and many do not have central AC installed. However, the owners of this colonial home were fortunate to have a complete HVAC system.

Unfortunately, the AC system was over 20-years old and had a perpetual refrigerant leak that wore away the condenser coil over the years.  Finally, the damage was significant enough for the system to fail, and the homeowners had to find a new solution to their air conditioning problems.

After some research, they found N.E.T.R., Inc., and read some of the many five-star reviews left by previous customers in the area.  Additionally, the residential case studies on our website gave them plenty of examples of our past work so that the owners knew we could design a replacement system for them.

The Problem: A refrigerant leak in the 20-year old AC system in this colonial home in Topsfield, MA, corroded the condenser coil enough to cause the entire system to fail. They needed a replacement system installed quickly.

The Solution: N.E.T.R., Inc. installed a new American Standard 3 and a half-ton 13 Seer system to replace the damaged units. This new AC system will offer high-quality air conditioning for years.

The Design

American Standard air handler installed in a colonial home’s attic. When the family called N.E.T.R., Inc. for a consultation, Mike Cappuccio took on the project.  He met with the family to find the problem with the failing AC system.  After inspecting the units, Mike found a leak in the refrigerant piping that had completely destroyed the condenser coil.  The entire system would need to be replaced to fix the damage.

Mike and his team proposed using a 3.5 ton 13 Seer American Standard air conditioning system to fit into the existing ductwork and make the replacement process easy.

The Installation

Before installation of the new units could begin, the old air conditioning system had to be removed from the home.  Mike and his team pulled the old air blower from the attic and the condenser unit from outside the home and disposed of them according to EPA guidelines. Additionally, the old refrigerant lines required replacement, so they were removed and discarded according to EPA standards.

A new condenser pad had to be poured for the outdoor condenser since the old pad did not meet the clearance requirements for the American Standard AC system.  After the pad was placed correctly, poured, and leveled, the new outdoor condenser was installed.

New outdoor condenser unit for an American Standard air conditioner system. The new American Standard air handler was installed in the attic where the old unit had been removed.  This AC placement was ideal because it tied directly into the existing ductwork with almost no adjustments needed.  The unit in the attic was a 3.5 ton 13 Seer American Standard air handler that will easily be able to keep up with cooling this home in the hottest days of summer.  Additionally, the AC system’s size is ideal for managing the home’s humidity, as well.

A new refrigerant line was installed outside the home to connect the outdoor condenser to the indoor AC unit.  The new system required an updated digital thermostat, as well, which was placed in a central location inside the home.  This will allow the family to make any adjustments needed with ease.

The team installed a brand new set of condensate drain lines and a fiberglass drain pan, which was placed under the unit.  This pan features overflow protection with a shut off switch.

The Benefits

Now, the family will not have to dread the upcoming summer months because N.E.T.R., Inc. has provided a completely new AC system to keep them comfortable.  The new units will have a 1-year warranty for any labor needed and a 10-year warranty on parts for any of the new American Standard system installed.

Not only will this family be able to enjoy the comfort of their home, but they will save on their monthly energy bills by not using a system with a leak.  Additionally, the warranties provided by N.E.T.R., Inc. will give them the peace of mind they deserve.
