The owners of this split-entry home in Lexington, MA, were happy with their existing gas heat system for keeping the home warm in the winter. Unfortunately, like many homes in the northern states, this house was built without a central air conditioning system. As the temperatures continued to rise throughout the summers, the owners found the living room in this house increasingly unbearable.
To cool the room, the homeowners installed a window AC unit in the living room’s window. This solution was less than satisfactory since the window unit was loud, inefficient, and expensive to operate. Additionally, the window AC wasn’t strong enough to keep up with the demands of cooling the entire living room, so it ran constantly and left hot and cold spots throughout the space.
Finally, enough was enough. The family decided it was time to find a more energy-efficient, cost-effective solution that would keep the room comfortable on the hottest days. After talking with some friends, they decided to contact N.E.T.R., Inc., and see what solutions we could provide for them.
The Problem: These homeowners had a gas heat system that kept the home toasty warm on the coldest days. However, the lack of a central air conditioning system left them sweating in the summertime. After trying a window AC unit for cooling the living room, they decided it was time for an upgrade.
The Solution: N.E.T.R., Inc., was recommended to these homeowners by friends, so they knew that we’d be able to provide the best possible solution for their needs. Our team proposed installing a single Mitsubishi ductless AC to cool the living room.
The Design
The design phase of this project was simple since the homeowners were only wanting a single room cooled. To achieve this, an outdoor heat pump for cooling only would need to be installed on a concrete pad. This condenser unit would supply the cooled air to an indoor ductless wall-mounted unit that the team would place on the wall of the living room.
Our team determined that the best placement for the Mitsubishi ductless unit was in the corner near the window. This spot would give the ductless unit the best airflow throughout the room. Additionally, it kept the ductless AC out of the way so that the family would barely even notice it was there at all.
The Installation
Installing the new system was quick and efficient since there was only a single unit being added to the home. The first step in the installation was to remove the window AC and prep the space outside the house for the concrete mounting pad.
Next, the team poured the concrete and set up the Mitsubishi outdoor condenser. This unit will supply the perfectly cooled air to the indoor ductless AC unit through piping that the team installed. The refrigerant piping and drain piping were covered with line hide to ensure the exterior of the home held up its curb appeal after the installation.
In the living room, the comfort specialist carefully mounted the Mitsubishi ductless unit on the wall. Then, the ductless unit was connected to the piping that was snaked through the walls like electrical wiring. Once the two units were connected, R410a refrigerant was charged through the piping, and the team booted up the system to test it out.
When the comfort consultant from N.E.T.R., Inc., was satisfied with the cooling quality of the Mitsubishi system, they installed the remote control, and the homeowners were finally able to enjoy their living room again.
The Benefits
These homeowners found N.E.T.R., Inc., through friends that highly recommended our team to them because of their own experiences with our company. Thanks to that recommendation, this family is now able to enjoy their living room throughout the summer!
One of the reasons that our team decided to use a Mitsubishi ductless AC system for this installation is that the units are whisper-quiet to operate. This allows the family to enjoy perfectly cooled air without having to talk over a noisy window AC. Additionally, the pinpoint control over the temperature in the room will ensure they always have the comfort they crave.
Another benefit to the ductless system is that it operates more efficiently than most of the other air conditioning options on the market today. This Mitsubishi ductless unit will save them hundreds on energy bills over the window AC unit and give them more evenly cooling in the living room no matter the outside temperatures.
