Split-Level Home in Framingham Gets Ductless AC

Split-level home in Framingham upgrades to Mitsubishi ductless AC system. The owners of this split-level home in Framingham, MA, loved the location of their house. The town is filled with a rich history and friendly faces, so it is the perfect place for raising a family.

However, like many homes in the area, it did not have a central HVAC system installed when it was built. Instead, the house relied on a gas and electric heating system from Eversource. Unfortunately, during the summer, the family resorted to using window AC units in many of the rooms to stay cool.

Window ACs are notoriously loud, inefficient, and expensive to operate, so the family quickly grew tired of this cooling solution. They decided to research alternatives and found that Mitsubishi ductless ACs systems may be perfect for their home.

While looking for a contractor, the homeowners discovered that N.E.T.R., Inc. has the title of #1 Mitsubishi Electric Elite Diamond Dealer in New England, so they knew we’d be able to offer the high-quality installation and air conditioning options they craved.

Problem: Split-level home in Framingham, MA, needed a better air conditioning solution than window ACs and supplemental heating for their Eversource electric and gas system.

Solution: N.E.T.R., Inc. designed a three-zoned Mitsubishi Electric ductless AC system to offer complete cooling relief in the summer and high-efficiency heat in the winter.

The Design

Example of an indoor Mitsubishi ductless AC installed in Framingham home. When N.E.T.R., Inc. met with the family, they could see that a multi-zone ductless system would be the best fit for their home. Both of the bedrooms would need individual AC units. However, the living room was an open concept with the kitchen and dining room, which would allow a single ductless unit to provide heating and cooling to those rooms.

Lastly, an outdoor condenser unit would need to be installed on the right side of the home where it was easy to access but didn’t interfere with the home’s curb appeal. This condenser will be placed on a stand to prevent it from being clogged with debris or snow. The entire unit and stand will be mounted to a poured concrete pad for stability.

The Installation

Unlike traditional HVAC systems, the ductless system from Mitsubishi Electric does not require extensive ductwork to be installed throughout the home. Instead, small tubing is piped through the walls like electrical wiring to connect the indoor air handlers to the outdoor condenser.

The indoor wall ACs are mounted on the walls, out of the way, where they can provide the best airflow throughout the room. In both of the bedrooms, the units were placed in corners near a window to give the most efficient heating and cooling to the room. In the living room, the unit was mounted to the wall near the dining room and kitchen so that it can offer air conditioning to both rooms.

The tubing was then piped from each of the units to the outdoor condenser so that the treated air can be forced through the tubes to the ductless ACs whenever needed.

The Benefits

Each of the three ductless ACs operates independently from the other units, which allows the family to have pin-point control over their comfort. Each of the rooms can maintain a different temperature to keep the occupant comfortable without causing strain to a centralized system.

Additionally, the individual units can be turned off if they are not in use. If the second bedroom is only ever used for guests, then the homeowners can save money by choosing not to cool or heat that room when it is not in use.

Because of the Mitsubishi ductless system’s efficiency, the family will save on their monthly energy bills throughout the year. In the summer, they’ll no longer have to overpay for their air conditioning because the ductless system only takes about the same energy as a lightbulb to run. Additionally, they can provide supplemental heating to their existing Eversource system in the winter to lower the cost of keeping their home warm.

The homeowners were able to qualify for a Mass Save rebate of $591.67 just for upgrading their home to a more efficient system! If you’re thinking of upgrading your home’s HVAC system, N.E.T.R., Inc. can help you save the most on your up-front costs by helping you understand which rebates and savings you qualify for.

Another benefit to the Mitsubishi Electric ductless system is that it is whisper-quiet, so the family will no longer have to talk over loud window ACs or be awakened at night when the system kicks on. Instead, they’ll enjoy quiet comfort throughout the year without the drawbacks of other HVAC systems.
