Colonial-style homes in our area were often built without ductwork, and they use oil for heat with radiators of one sort or another. This can be fine for most people in the winter, but come summer, they have to rely on window air conditioners to try to cut the heat and humidity. Heck, I lived in a turn of the century house myself growing up, and remember the ritual of dragging the heavy A/C units out of the basement, lugging them up a couple of flights of stairs, and needing a couple people involved to install them and make sure we didn't drop the thing out the window in the process.  Then there's making sure there's enough insulation in place so you don't waste money and energy!

Then come fall, the whole painful process had to be reversed, and we always seemed to decided to pull them put before the last heat wave hit.  It's an incredibly labor-intensive process for summer comfort. Add on the fact that only the rooms with A/C units ever get fully comfortable, and it's no wonder that homeowners like ours in Woburn were looking for a better solution.

Woburn Kitchen and Bedroom gets Superior Comfort with Ductless

Problem: The kitchen in the home was never comfortable in the summer, especially, and the upstairs bedroom never seemed cool enough in the summer, costing the family sleep. In addition, the cost of running the loud window a/c units they had was expensive and they were difficult to install, remove and store.

Solution: Installed two Mitsubishi Hyper Heat Ductless Units that will cool the Kitchen and Bedroom with the touch of a button, and provide additional heat, if needed in the Winter.

Ductless wall unit will provide perfect cooling in this Woburn home

This family needed a comfort upgrade! They have colonial style home, and while the oil heated baseboards did a good job in the winter, the lack of ductwork and reliance on window air conditioning units meant their home was simply uncomfortable for most of the warmer months of the year. Especially in the kitchen and bedroom, the rooms simply never seemed to get the air circulation needed to make sure the A/C from the window units they had circulated enough to deliver the cooling they were spending their money on!

When they called us, we knew that we would help them out, and save them from the painful process of guessing when to install the A/C units, setting the time aside, often the better part of a whole day to do it, and then needing to repeat this painful ritual again in the Fall. Bu installing two wall-mounted ductless units, one in the kitchen and one in the bedroom, we could provide lasting comfort with a system that will help circulate the air as well and keep the whole room the perfect, comfortable temperature. The wall units are up and out of the way, and the family can actually use their windows to see outside, instead of looking at a piece of equipment for four to five months a year!

NETR suggested that they install two Mitsubishi Hyper Heat Ductless Unit. This involves one outdoor heat pump, but two indoor units- and the good news, is that it is potentially expandable to add additional indoor units in the future if the family decides it needs even more comfort in other parts of the home. These units can also act as supplemental heat in the Winter, so they can take any additional chill out of a room with the remote control, whenever they want.

But best of all, this energy-efficient technology will be able to deliver maximum comfort at a much lower monthly energy cost, any month of the year! This family was also able to save money with a rebate of $1,300! through the Mass Save program, energy efficient technology like this helps everyone, by reducing the overall energy use. There are still rebates available, so if you are interested in this type of energy efficient equipment as well while lowering your monthly energy bills, be sure to ask your comfort specialist about what sort of rebates would apply.

So just to recap the key points of this particular home:

  • The home owners now have a comfortable, quiet solution to cool their kitchen and bedroom.
  • The energy bills will go down because of the energy efficient technology.
  • No removal or replacement of equipment was necessary, other than the bulky, old window air conditioners!  Goodbye!
  • $1,300 rebate was available to home owners.

A Great Investment

This kind of installation is going to help them with a few things. They are still using their current system to heat, so this ductless install will only supplement their current system to make the house completely comfortable, whether it's winter or the hottest day of the summer. No removal of an old system necessary.

This technology will also help save money on energy bills, being that it is an energy efficient solution. The homeowner was also eligible for a $1,300 rebate
