Labcorp Refrigeration Installation by N.E.T.R. Inc.,

Labcorp is one of the most comprehensive and widest used diagnostic companies for hospitals and clinics throughout the U.S.A.  In Westborough, Massachusetts, the facility processes hundreds of samples every day and is continually receiving new stock from local and national facilities.

Because of the sheer number of samples arriving and awaiting processing at any given time, the Labcorp facility needs an extensive refrigeration system to keep the samples fresh.  The increased demand for testing because of COVID-19 required this particular Labcorp location to upgrade their refrigeration system to a larger, more efficient model.

After some research, the Labcorp representative reached out to N.E.T.R. Inc., about installing the new system.  N.E.T.R. Inc., has an incredible reputation with other corporations in and around Westborough that have required freezer or refrigeration installs in the past. After reading some of the commercial case studies from similar companies that N.E.T.R. Inc., provided a service for, the team at Labcorp knew we could provide them with the quality they required.

The Problem: The Labcorp facility in Westborough, Massachusetts, needed a refrigeration upgrade to keep up with the growing demand for testing samples.  The installation would need to be quick, efficient, and reliable.

The Solution: N.E.T.R. Inc., installed a 20 x 40 x 9 freezer with two 3.5 ton HP low temp scroll condensers to provide a stable and reliable freezer for the samples awaiting testing.

The Design

After meeting with the Labcorp representatives, the team at N.E.T.R. Inc., knew that the new freezer would have to remain extremely cold to preserve the samples for testing.  The team knew that the new freezer would need to be large and feature plenty of open space for the added shelving and storage.

The new freezer would be 20’ x 40’ x 9’ to allow for plenty of space for the professionals at Labcorp to store and retrieve the samples they need.  Additionally, the N.E.T.R. Inc., team would need to install two 3.5 ton horsepower low temp scrolling condenser units on the roof.

The Installation

Getting the condenser units installed on the roof was not easy, but the team at N.E.T.R. Inc., has dealt with this exact situation hundreds of times over the years.  The team was able to acquire a crane permit to hoist the new equipment onto the roof for placement.

There, the team furnished and set up the two condensers on top of risers to prevent blockage from debris or snow.  The condenser units then had new refrigerant piping run from each unit to the indoor air handler, where the treated air could be pumped into the freezer space.

N.E.T.R. Inc., then furnished and installed four low-temperature evaporator coils with electric defrost.  Each of the coils also had a hot gas bypass option for emergency use.

The Benefits

Now, the Labcorp employees will have a safe and secure place to store all the samples that arrive from other facilities while they wait to be tested. The freezer is built to keep the samples well-below room temperature.  Additionally, the condenser units on the roof are highly efficient and built to withstand Massachusetts winters’ extreme temperatures.

Now, the Labcorp company can focus on testing and sending out results instead of worrying about getting too many samples for the freezer space.
