This homeowner was living in a beautiful 1,200 sqft condominium that offered two bedrooms, a basement, a large kitchen, and a spacious dining/living area. The home was beautiful, in a great location, and gave the family all the space they needed, but there was one major problem.
The home had no air conditioning system. With summer approaching, the family knew that they needed a solution fast, so they looked into options for energy-efficient AC and found N.E.T.R., Inc..
The Problem: Condominium in Jamaica Plain in Boston needed air conditioning installed in one bedroom, the living room, the kitchen, and the basement. No existing HVAC provided AC for the home.
The Solution: N.E.T.R., Inc. installed an outdoor unit with four indoor air handlers for this Mitsubishi ductless AC system. Now, the family has cooling relief throughout the home.
The Design
They began researching their options for cooling solutions. Window ACs are a common solution for homes with no central AC because they have a low initial investment and are a “quick-fix.” Generally, the homeowner can install the unit themselves and resolve the problem within a day or so. However, window air conditioning units come with a long list of issues and potential pitfalls.
Window units are known for being noisy, inefficient, expensive to maintain, and a hassle to install and store during the winter. Additionally, there have been reports of burglars using windows with AC units installed in them as entry-points for home!
That search led them straight to N.E.T.R., Inc. Our status as Mitsubishi Electric’s #1 Elite Diamond Dealer in Boston, MA, sets us apart and allows our highly-trained technicians to offer superior customer service and extended warranties. Additionally, N.E.T.R., Inc. has years of experience providing Mitsubishi ductless solutions to families in and around the Boston area. All of this made the family certain that we could provide a solution for them.
Chip Moeckel took on the project and met with the family to tour the home. He designed a complete system using a single outdoor condenser unit and four interior, wall-mounted ductless ACs.
The Installation
The ductless wall ACs are relatively easy to install and do not require extensive construction to the home. In fact, they only needed to drill a small hole into the wall behind the unit. This hole allows the tubing that carries the treated air to be snaked through the walls like electrical wiring. Each of the units is connected to the outdoor air condenser, which converts the air from outside into cool air for the home.
The units are installed high on the walls so that they don’t interfere with day-to-day life and provide optimal air-flow throughout the space. Each unit operates on its own thermostat, which is controlled with a remote. This design allows the family to adjust the temperatures in the rooms separately so that they are perfectly comfortable.
The Benefits
Additionally, the family was able to apply for a rebate with Mass Save, which offers money back for homeowners who upgrade their homes in environmentally-friendly ways. These homeowners received $400 in rebates from Mass Save, just for installing this Mitsubishi system.
Another benefit to the Mitsubishi ductless design is that the unit doubles as heat pumps during the winter. Now, if the family finds their home is chilly on the coldest days of winter, the ductless system can add that extra touch of warmth they crave.
